Latest news from Campinas, Brazil for the upcoming Congress 2024
For the 49th congress held in Campinas Brazil, there is a call for artistic, pedagogical, exhibition tables and exhibitors' proposals.
The closing date for submissions is the 31st of October. So just one month to go. If you need some ideas and guidelines for your proposal, go to the website of the Brazilian Viola Society.
Registration for all participants for the congress will start on the 1st of March 2024! We will do our best to keep you updated, but take this opportunity to add that date to your calendar.
Personal note from President Jutta Puchhammer
It is the end of summer here in the Northern hemisphere. I just came back from an apple picking and fun weekend with my grandkids. But work calls again!
It is this time in the year, when we think about our upcoming concert season, make practice plans for ourselves as well as for our students. We also think about future projects, and of course, congress proposals.
What do I feel about strongly, would I like to propose a new contemporary composition, a hidden gem, a technique workshop, a masterclass or even an unknown little concerto? I am still debating and remind myself not to miss the proposal deadline of October 31st, 2023 for our next 2024 congress in Brazil
And you? What would you like to share with us? Lets get inventive - I can’t wait to hear about it! Usually, us violists never lack ideas!
DVS Catalogue of Music for Viola Ensemble

Dear Violists,

What's more fun than playing the viola? Not many things come to mind, but playing the viola TOGETHER might be one of them! In fact, the scientific evidence is overwhelming: The wealth of Viola Ensemble repertoire out there indicates a significant demand.
If you're looking for pieces to play, there are many good databases out there, such as IMSLP, the Wikipedia list, and Music4Viola.info.
But they are not specialised in viola ensemble music, and they all miss some practical information that you might like to have: Where can I find a (free) recording to listen to, and where can I find the sheet music?
This is why, for the past 11+ years, the Dutch Viola Society has compiled a dedicated list for viola ensemble repertoire (2-N players), currently counting more than 1150 pieces, of which the majority are original compositions. You can find the latest published list on this page of the Dutch Viola Society website.
Due to limited manpower, the list has sadly been unable to keep pace with the explosive growth of the repertoire, so we could use some help! We propose to form an International Workgroup to keep this list up to date with the latest and greatest viola ensemble works. If you are interested, send us a mail at:  [email protected].
