Why
The purpose of developing an audio database for the International Viola Society (IVS) is to provide students, educators, and violists with accessible, high-quality recordings of a wide array of viola repertoire. Many students hesitate to approach new or lesser-known pieces simply because they lack a reference point for how the work sounds, making it harder to visualize how to interpret or approach the music.
This database would serve as a bridge, allowing students to explore diverse compositions confidently and helping them to expand their musical repertoire and interpretative skills. With this resource, students can easily familiarize themselves with new pieces, refine their musical tastes, and find inspiration to bring more variety into their practice and performances. Ultimately, the audio database will support IVS’s mission of promoting the viola and expanding access to its repertoire worldwide.
