Karin Dolman
Vice President (The Netherlands)
Dear viola lovers,
I am honored to be selected as Vice President of the International Viola Society.
Let me introduce myself – my name is Karin Dolman. Until recently, I served as President of the Dutch Viola Society (DVS – where I am still a member of the board). The viola plays an important role in my life. I switched from violin to viola during my studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory – a most decisive step. Within the string quartet, the viola fulfils a wonderful role as musical “playmaker”. And the charming repertoire for (solo) viola fits me like a glove.
During my career, I played several competitions, and for nearly 30 years I was the violist of the DoelenKwartet, giving solo recitals with my regular pianist Caecilia Boschman. Since 2011 I have been honored to be the viola professor at Codarts University of Arts in Rotterdam. In 2012, I founded the Dutch Viola Society together with a couple of other violists. We held bi-annual National Viola Congresses, and in 2018 we hosted the International Viola Congress (IVC) in Rotterdam.
In the course of attending the past congresses on behalf of the DVS, I have become familiar with the IVS, and I believe that, with my enthusiasm and energy, I can make useful contributions to this organization. I pledge my utmost efforts to communicate with the national sections worldwide. And I think that we can still make huge gains in getting more countries to join the IVS.
